How did you meet? What makes your mate a perfect match? How was the question popped?

We were both working at the local Woolworths when we first met. Alex would always hope that when he took his lunch break, that Megan would be in the lunchroom at the same time. When that happened, Alex was always very nervous to talk to Megan, but she was always so easy to talk to. Alex would also purposely walk past the checkouts so he could see her before going on lunch and she would always smile at him as he walked past. We found a mutual interest in Doctor Who, and we would often go around to each other’s houses to watch Doctor Who together. We were together for about 5 and a half years before the 26th of April 2018, when Alex took her to Mount Bright lookout in the Hunter Valley. Alex took his camera bag and camera that day and conveniently forgot to attach a lens. Little did Megan know that Alex hid the engagement ring in the camera bag, but Alex thinks that she was very suspicious on that day anyway. Alex proposed to Megan on the top of the lookout, while one of her best friends was hiding nearby to take photos of the proposal. This meant that she also got to share the moment with Megan, which was amazing!

How long were you engaged? Who helped plan? Did you hire a planner? What planning tools did you use? Did The Pink Bride assist you in any way? What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?

We were engaged for about 1 and half years before the wedding day. Megan is a very organized person, so we basically planned everything ourselves, with some help from our family and friends. We used a wedding planning app to help us plan and it was really helpful with keep track of the planning timeline and budgeting. The best decision we made was to spend the money on an awesome photography and videography team because these photos and videos let us relive those moments forever. We’re also really glad that we got a photo booth! It was so much fun and gave our guests something else to do at the reception Peterson House, one of the most popular Hunter Valley Wedding Venues. We weren’t going to book one, but we used one at a wedding expo and then won a voucher for money off of the hire, so we couldn’t resist!

What was your vision/theme? How did you bring it to life?

We had a romantic, spring theme for the wedding. We held the wedding in October in the Hunter Valley when the grapevines were starting to bloom. We chose a spring theme because we wanted to symbolize growth and a healthy bond between each other. We brought it to life through our stationery, our venue, and our ceremony and reception decorations.

Where did you save big? Where did you splurge?

We saved big on our stationary. Alex has just completed his Diploma of Graphic Design, so he designed we save the dates, wedding invitations, seating chart, and menus. We then used Vistaprint and Officeworks to have everything printed. We splurged the most on the photography and videography which was well worth it to us because we get to relive the memories with amazing hunter valley wedding photos.

What made you laugh? What made you cry? What were the most memorable moments?

What unexpected things happened that weren’t planned for?

We think that the day went really smoothly for us. We are a very big family and friends’ people so having everyone around to laugh and cry with us made it so special. The way Megan looked at Alex when she was walking down the aisle, still makes Alex teary and is a moment he will never forget. Megan also agrees that walking down the aisle and seeing Alex was really memorable and she will never forget that moment either! We were very lucky that nothing unexpected happened on the day. We were really lucky to have had amazing weather. Something that made us laugh was seeing some of the photos from our photo booth and also the dance moves on the dance floor.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Book early, and book quickly. Most vendors are usually booked very far in advance, so don’t wait too long otherwise you might miss out. Spend money on things that will make your day easier, for example having a decorator to decorate the venue meant we had that one less thing to worry about. Most importantly, don’t cheap out on your photographer and videographer! Get a good photographer and videographer as the moments are so precious and you want these documented perfectly and make your hunter valley wedding photo look amazing.

What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?

We’re so excited to do life together! Starting and ending each day with each other as we navigate life together. Having each other definitely makes life a whole lot easier. We are so excited for what is to come in life and to achieve our goals together.
